Museum

The Oregon Electric Railway Museum is the largest streetcar/trolley museum in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It is owned and operated by the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society and is located in Brooks, Oregon, on the grounds of Powerland Heritage Park (formerly known as Antique Powerland).

In front of the carbarn at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a> (Brooks, Oregon) are 1934-built Brussels car 19 (in the center) and similar car 34 behind it (also built in 1934). Both were originally passenger streetcars, but were converted into work (maintenance) cars in 1970–71.

The carbarn at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a> (Brooks, Oregon). Parked in front of the building are 1934-built Brussels car 19 (with similar car 34 behind it, mostly obscured from view), a similar-vintage Brussels passenger trailer (No. 2190, ex-607, painted in the dark-green livery it received at the former Grand Cypress Resort, in Florida), and steeple-cab locomotive 351 from the Missoula Street Railway. At the far left is Seattle 604, a 1940 Twin Coach trolley bus. At the far right, Sydney 1187 (from Australia) is temporarily stopped on the museum's main line, to allow passengers to deboard and tour the carbarn.

Ex-Portland Traction Company car 813, a 1932 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._G._Brill_Company" class="extiw" title="en:J. G. Brill Company">Brill</a> "Master Unit" streetcar restored by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Historical_Society" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society">Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society</a>, in service on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willamette_Shore_Trolley" class="extiw" title="en:Willamette Shore Trolley">Willamette Shore Trolley</a> line in May 2010. It is waiting at the Portland terminus, at Bancroft Street, to start a trip to Lake Oswego. Car 813 first began serving the WST line in 1996, but 2010 was its final season on the line; it broke down in July 2010, and in 2012 it was moved to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a>, for eventual repair. This was the WST's Portland terminus after September 2003; previously, it had been farther north. The tallest of the buildings visible in the background is <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ardea" class="extiw" title="en:The Ardea">The Ardea</a>.

<p>Portland "Council Crest" Brill streetcar 503 at the terminus of the passenger line at the Trolley Park museum (Glenwood, Oregon), the former location of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a>, in 1986. During its service career in Portland, the ten streetcars in this series ran on narrow-gauge (3'6") trucks, but by the time of this photo car 503's original trucks had been replaced by standard-gauge trucks from an ex-Melbourne W2-type streetcar, to allow the car to operate on the museum line and in San Francisco (where it was on loan in 1983 and again in 1985).

The museum closed at this location in 1995 and opened at its new location, in Brooks, Oregon, in 1996.

An ex-Sydney, Australia semi-open <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tram" class="extiw" title="w:Tram">streetcar</a> operating at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="w:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a>, at Antique Powerland, in Brooks, Oregon. Car 1187 was built in 1912 by the Meadowbank Manufacturing Company (in Sydney).

Blackpool 48, a 1928 double-deck streetcar (tram) from England, operating on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willamette_Shore_Trolley" class="extiw" title="en:Willamette Shore Trolley">Willamette Shore Trolley</a> heritage streetcar line, between <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland,_Oregon" class="extiw" title="en:Portland, Oregon">Portland, Oregon</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Oswego,_Oregon" class="extiw" title="en:Lake Oswego, Oregon">Lake Oswego, Oregon</a>, in 1996. It is pictured southbound in the Johns Landing neighborhood of Portland. The ex-Southern Pacific Railroad track does not have overhead <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_lines" class="extiw" title="en:Overhead lines">trolley wires</a>, so the electricity to power the streetcar comes from a generator it is towing on a trailer. Car 48 was in use on the WST line in fall 1987 and then again from November 1995 until 2006 (but not in regular use after 2003). In 2006, it was moved to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a>, in Brooks, Oregon.

Two <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tram" class="extiw" title="en:Tram">streetcars/trolleys</a> in operation at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a>, in Brooks, Oregon, seen at the outer end of the trolley line, Willow Creek "station". Car 210 (currently showing the wrong number, "201", which it received only after retirement) is from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trams_in_Porto" class="extiw" title="en:Trams in Porto">Porto</a>, Portugal, where it was built in 1940, based generally on American (J.G. Brill) designs of the 1910s. Double-decker 48 is a 1928-built <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackpool_Tramway" class="extiw" title="en:Blackpool Tramway">Blackpool "Standard"</a> tramcar from Blackpool, England, and has been owned by the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society since 1964. It is one of only very few operating double-deck trams at museums in the United States.

Ex-San Francisco Muni <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Standard_Light_Rail_Vehicle" class="extiw" title="en:US Standard Light Rail Vehicle">Boeing LRV</a> No. 1213 in operation at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Electric_Railway_Museum" class="extiw" title="en:Oregon Electric Railway Museum">Oregon Electric Railway Museum</a> (Brooks, Oregon) in August 2001. No. 1213 was built in 1977 as one of two 'pilot' cars for an order of LRVs by Muni and was originally numbered 1221. It was acquired by the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society in 2000 and arrived at the museum in November 2000.
